abstract = "The objective of this work is to validate Earth surface albedo
MODIS product with one calculated from Landsat ETM+ sensor for the
Serra da Mantiqueira Region. An empirical algorithm was applied to
estimate surface albedo with ETM+ data. The results shows that
there is agreement among MODIS surface albedo product and the one
obtained with ETM+ data (Rē = 0.64) at the confidence level of
99%. Albedo values ranged between 0 and 0,2 in MODIS product with
average of 0.16 and between 0 and 0,33 with average of 0,25 in the
ETM+ derived map. The main sources of uncertainty that are
responsible for the different albedo intervals were the difference
in the surface moisture between the days that preceded the ETM+
acquisition and the integration time of the MODIS product and the
differences in spatial resolution of the MODIS sensors (1 km) and
the ETM+ (30 m).",
